Chilean wines have been awarded over 250 medals today in the latest IWSC results.

Four Gold Outstanding medals were awarded in 2018, including Viña Siegel’s Siegel Single Vineyard Carménère 2015 from the Rapel Valley in Chile’s Central Valley.

Three wineries also achieved outstanding success with cabernet sauvignon: Santa Rita Casa Real 2014, Cono Sur 20 Barrels Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, and Gran Bosque Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 all received Gold Outstanding medals.

Viña Cono Sur, which was last year crowned Chilean Wine Producer of the Year, enjoys continued success, receiving an impressive 19 medals this year, including Gold Outstanding for its cabernet sauvignon and Silver Outstanding for Cono Sur Reserva Especial Chardonnay 2017. Other leading Chilean producers Concha y Toro and Luis Felipe have meanwhile received 13 medals each.

Other notable wins include six medals for well-known Syrah producer Viña Tabai, including Silver Outstanding for Tabalí Pedregoso Gran Reserva Syrah-Carmenere 2014 and Tabalí Vetas Blancas Reserva Especial Syrah 2016. Judges praised the latter for its “evolved, lifted and very assertive nose, minty and lightly gamey notes and fresh herbal nuances.”

Further south, Casas del Bosque in Casablanca has also been awarded a haul of medals, with ten products receiving awards. In addition to Gold Outstanding for its cabernet sauvignon, the winery also received three Silver Outstanding, three Silver, and three Bronze medals.

Today, Tuesday 25 September, the IWSC will be at Wines of Chile’s Love Wine, Love Chile event in London, where trade and consumer guests will have the opportunity to taste 20 award-winning wines on the IWSC stand.
