Launched in collaboration with The Old Vine Conference, the IWSC Old Vine Trophy recognises producers working to protect their heritage vineyards. During our wine awards entry process, all entrants were asked to highlight the age of the vines in their awards submission.
The top performing producers that listed their vineyards as having ‘old vines’ were then asked to complete a questionnaire to provide the judges with more in-depth information on how they preserve their old vines and educate on the importance of nurturing heritage vineyards.
This year, our expert judging panel was formed of Dirceu Vianna Junior MW, Independent Wine Consultant, Educator and Author; Rebecca Palmer, Associate Director at Corney & Barrow; John Hoskins MW, Educator and Judge and Sarah Abbott MW from the Old Vine Conference.
Having thoroughly reviewed all applications, the judges noted that they had been impressed with the effort the entrants put into education and research alongside the preservation of their old vines.
The following producers have been shortlisted for the 2024 Old Vine Trophy:
- Perdeberg, South Africa
- Nederburg, South Africa
- Villiera, South Africa
- Deep Woods Estate, Australia
The Old Vine Trophy winner will be announced at our Awards Celebration on 12 November in London, an event that has been described as the 'Oscars of the drinks industry'.
