Congratulations to Marisol de la Fuente! After a thorough and insightful discussion, our judges are thrilled to award this presitigous award to one of South America's leading wine educators.

This year’s judging panel brought together leading voices from across the wine and communication sectors, including Sarah Heller MW, William Morris (Digital Editor, Club Oenologique), and Marco Battochia and Monica Scappini from Vinitaly, the award’s sponsor. Together, they evaluated a diverse and inspiring field of entries that showcased the growing global reach of wine communication.

Based in Argentina, Marisol de la Fuente, widely known as Solsommelier, is an international sommelier, journalist, and educator whose mission is to make the world of wine more inclusive, dynamic, and approachable. With a background in communication and marketing, Marisol has spent more than 25 years building bridges between tradition and modern audiences through storytelling, education, and digital innovation.

Her career spans multiple platforms: she is the host of Vinimos Podcast, co-authored with La Nación journalist Ariel Torres, and a weekly TV columnist on Canal de la Ciudad, bringing wine culture to mainstream viewers. Her debut book, Te cuento el vino (Penguin Random House, 2024), has become a modern reference for Spanish-speaking wine lovers, praised for its clarity and accessibility. Through her educational project “El vino, sin vueltas” (Wine Without Complications), she has guided thousands of students into the world of wine, while her YouTube channel and social-media presence, reaching hundreds of thousands across Spanish and English speaking audiences, continue to make wine culture more engaging for younger generations.

In addition to her media work, Marisol serves as a strategic communication advisor to COVIAR (the Argentine Wine Corporation), helping shape national campaigns that promote Argentina’s wine identity globally. She is also a judge at national wine competitions and an academic lecturer at leading universities, underscoring her influence both inside and outside the classroom

Our judges shared “Marisol stands out for her remarkable reach and her ability to engage audiences in multiple ways. She communicates with authenticity and energy, connecting with both Spanish and English speaking wine lovers. It’s refreshing to see such a dynamic communicator representing a different market and bringing new voices into the global wine conversation.”

Celebrating a Global Voice in Wine Communication

Marisol de la Fuente’s work exemplifies the power of modern wine communication, educational yet warm, inclusive yet authoritative. Through her book, podcast, courses, and digital platforms, she has redefined how audiences discover and connect with wine, particularly across Latin America’s growing community of enthusiasts.

As the winner of the 2026 IWSC Wine Communicator trophy, Marisol will collaborate with the IWSC and Vinitaly throughout the year, contributing to editorial features and educational initiatives, and will host a masterclass at Vinitaly 2026 in Verona as part of her ambassadorial role.
