Top Chenin Blancs as voted by our judges
Chenin blanc is a versatile grape variety which means it is hard not to find a style you can enjoy.
With its strongholds in the Loire region of France, as well as in South Africa, where over 50% of chenin is produced, this year the IWSC was delighted to award a medal to a chenins produced in Mexico as well as a couple of sparkling Chenin’s from Canada and India.
Because chenin can be produced in a number of different styles, from dry to off-dry in the case of Koelenhof Wynkelder’s 1679 Single Vineyard Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2020, from medium, as is Morrison’s The Best Vouvray 2021 to sparkling in the case of Sula Vineyards Brut from India, it is a great option for food pairing – managing to accompany a huge cross section of dishes, from desserts and cheeses, to Southeast Asian cuisine or simply pork chops and apples!
