For several reasons Shochu, a traditional Japanese distilled spirit, is becoming increasingly popular internationally and this has been reflected in the number of entries to the IWSC awards, and the category’s medal results.
Shochu's lower alcohol content, versatility, unique flavour profile, and the cultural appeal of Japan worldwide are all seen as contributing factors to its increasing popularity internationally.
At this year’s judging, the Shochu category, which was overseen by Marie Cheong Thong was awarded 3 Gold Outstanding medals, 14 Golds, 39 Silver and 34 Bronze medal.
