The IWSC is delighted to reveal that from an esteemed shortlist, our judges unanimously concluded that Sarah Heller MW be crowned our winner of the IWSC’s 2022 Wine Communicator of the Year.

This week, members of the IWSC’s expert judging panels are in South Africa, tasting hundreds of wines from across the country. Together with Elizabeth Kelly MW, Victoria Mason, Matteo Montone MS and David Kermode, our judging committee member and Master of Wine, Ali Cooper is at Paarl’s Diamant Estate with local judges tasting through 2022 entrants from all across South Africa.

This award saw a doubling of entries versus last year, making the decision of who to shortlist incredibly difficult for our judges.

Our second week of wine judging kicked off with another thrilling day of popping corks as our panels judged Champagne led by Essi Avellan MW, followed by Asian and Central & Eastern European wines overseen by Sarah Abbott MW. We sat down with our judges to find out what impressed them.
