IWSC announces La Chablisienne as the 2024 White Wine Producer Trophy winner
We are delighted to announce that La Chablisienne, one of the forefront winemaking cooperatives in Chablis is the winner of our 2024 White Wine Producer Trophy.
Founded in 1923, La Chablisienne stands as a pinnacle of excellence in the Chablis region, uniting 250 grower families who not only cultivate the land but are also proud owners of this esteemed cooperative. With an impressive control over 1,200 hectares—representing a remarkable 23% of the region's vineyard area—La Chablisienne has become synonymous with quality white wine production. This dynamic producer prioritises sustainability and ethical practices, making it a significant player in the wine industry.
La Chablisienne's recognition as the winner of the White Wine Producer Trophy is a testament to its wide-reaching accomplishments in organic viticulture and sustainability. The IWSC judges noted, "La Chablisienne were the winners for us because of the breadth of what they have achieved, with impressive steps in organic viticulture. They are a dynamic producer with a commendable ethos of ‘affordable luxury', an excellent approach to sustainability and an impressive set of results in the 2024 IWSC." This accolade reflects not only the quality of their wines but also the commitment to responsible practices that resonate deeply with current consumer values.
The commitment to sustainability at La Chablisienne is evident in its operations. The cooperative maintains approximately 70 hectares of certified organic vineyards, with about 70% of its grower families practising High Environmental Value (HVE) methods. The flagship Chateau Grenouilles Grand Cru Vineyard exemplifies their dedication to bio-protection and is certified as Terra Vitis. Their sustainability initiatives extend beyond viticulture; the winery has reduced electricity consumption by 30% and water usage by 40% over the past five years. The innovative implementation of electric vehicles and bicycles for transportation between sites further showcases their forward-thinking approach. Furthermore, the acquisition of a new storage facility in a natural quarry significantly enhances their operations, providing a climate-controlled environment that eliminates the need for energy-consuming air conditioning and humidification systems.
