Whether it’s known as ‘bison-grass vodka’, ‘16th-century vodka’ or even ‘healthy vodka’, this brand certainly knows how to steal the show. Pronounced ‘zoo-broov-ka’, this Polish brand bought in 2013 by Roust International (one of the largest vodka producers and distributors of alcohol in Poland) calls on over 400 years of history.
It is made from rye, as are almost all Polish vodkas, and then infused with a specific grass, Hierochloe odorata, which is native to the Białowieża Forest in Poland’s northeast.
In 2010, the brand launched Żubrówka Biała, named ‘White’ in Polish and inspired by the snowy scenes of the Białowieża Forest. It has become the country’s bestselling vodka brand, enjoying a 20% share of the domestic market. The super-premium Żubrówka Czarna was launched in 2016.
