The IWSC Emerging Talent in Spirits Communication 2026 shortlist is here, and we’re excited to reveal the nominees who have been selected as the final four. This award recognises writers, educators, creators and storytellers who bring originality, clarity and cultural insight to their work, all while making the industry more accessible, inclusive and engaging.
This year’s judging panel consists of drinks writer and educator, Kristiane Westray, spirits writer and author, Billy Abbott, Club Oenologique Digital Editor, William Morris, and Founder of the Flavour Report, Reece Sims.

Heather has built a reputation for thoughtful, well researched whisky journalism. She writes for Whisky Magazine, American Whiskey Magazine, BRANNT and Flavour Report, covering everything from Nordic whisky and European regional identity to bourbon and folklore. Her reporting ranges from breaking news, including her early coverage of the EU/Canada rye whisky dispute, to deeper cultural and historical pieces informed by her academic work.
Billy Abbott praised her approach, noting that ‘Heather’s reporting is sharp, well researched and easy to engage with. For someone at this stage in their career, that’s genuinely impressive.’
Maria is the creator behind Minas Whisky, a fast growing educational platform that blends clear, polished spirits content with strong visual storytelling. Her work spans Instagram, YouTube and written features, where she translates technical whisky knowledge into accessible, engaging narratives for a broad audience. Her consistency across formats, from tasting videos to educational explainers, has helped her build a highly engaged community.
Kristiane Westray highlighted her professionalism, noting that ‘what really impressed us was Maria’s reach and the quality of her work across formats. She communicates with clarity, confidence and purpose which is exactly what this award is designed to recognise.’
Ruchira is a communicator whose work is redefining how Indian whisky and heritage spirits are understood globally. Her writing includes a landmark feature on Indian single malts, and she is increasingly sought after for panels, tastings and consultancy. Through Ruchira’s Table, she curates invite only events that connect brands with sommeliers, bartenders, journalists and decisionmakers, creating commercially meaningful routes to market.
William Morris praised her impact and perspective, noting that ‘Ruchira’s work on Indian whisky is thoughtful, well informed and commercially relevant. She brings a global perspective that adds real value to the category.’
Anna blends humour, warmth and originality in her approach to spirits communication. Her Instagram content focuses on flavour-first education, pairings and approachable whisky guidance, while her live tasting show Mighty Sips, now in residency at the Gilded Saloon in Edinburgh, combines musical comedy with spirits education. She also writes for publications including Barley Magazine and Decanter, bringing her distinctive voice to both digital and print audiences.
Kristiane Westray admired her ability to connect with people, noting that ‘Anna’s content shows a deep understanding of how people actually engage with spirits today. She’s building community through creativity and authenticity.’
