Angus Hughson is a digital wine media specialist, drinks writer and publisher focussing on innovation in the drinks media space with a background in wine sales, export, marketing and eCommerce. He is the Australian Editor for VINOUS with Antonio Galloni, Founder of Winepilot and Co-Publisher of The Australian Ark by Andrew Caillard MW. 




Angus began his career with a PhD in the Psychology of wine tasting at the University of Sydney with a conference in Dijon igniting a move into the wine trade. Thereafter he relocated to London where Angus worked at La Reserve and passed the WSET Diploma before moving back to Sydney. For fifteen years Angus plied his trade in retail and eCommerce helping to found and operate trailblazers in the online space. On the side he was a regular contributor to The Australian newspaper and Gourmet Traveller WINE while achieving a theory pass in the Master of Wine examinations. Angus was a Len Evans Scholar back in 2006 and since that time has judged at numerous shows and competitions around Australia, including the Sydney Royal Wine Show, Wine Show of Western Australia, Margaret River Wine Show, Macedon Ranges Wine Show and Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards.




Five years ago Angus moved full-time into the media space with a focus on innovation and improving how the wine trade connects with a broad range of consumers while adding depth to the coverage of wine in Australia. In addition to his coverage of Australian wine on VINOUS, he launched Winepilot and The Vintage Journal with Andrew Caillard MW bringing together a diverse range of wine writers including established names while also providing a space for the next generation of wine communicators. 




Angus recently moved into book publishing and worked with Andrew Caillard MW as the publisher and co-author of The Wine Journal 2024. In 2021 he began work as co-publisher and project manager for The Australian Ark by Andrew Caillard MW. This definitive 3-volume Australian wine history was released in 2023 and has been nominated as one of four finalists in the Gourmand Awards for Wine Book of the Year 2024.
