Following a successful 2025, which saw 145 medals awarded across the region, the IWSC will return to Istanbul for its fourth judging in Turkey, once again in association with Tuğrul Şavkay Turkish Wines Competition
Boasting a winemaking heritage that stretches back thousands of years, and with the fifth-largest vineyard area in the world, it is perhaps surprising that Turkey remains largely under the radar globally. While the country offers a rich and diverse viticultural landscape, with multiple terroirs and microclimates, much of its vineyard land is dedicated to raisins and fruit juice production. As a result, wine production remains relatively small, and exports are limited in comparison.
The 2026 judging panel will be overseen by Isa Bal MS (Master Sommelier and founder of Trivet), Sunny Hodge (founder and director of Diogenes the Dog), Emma Robinson (wine buyer at Jeroboams), and David Kermode (writer and broadcaster). Each judge brings a distinct perspective to Istanbul, with Bal and Hodge particularly recognised for championing emerging and underrepresented regions.
Regional Judging is a key part of the IWSC enabling judges to taste and rate wines in their country of origin. For 2026, the judging will be based exclusively in Istanbul, creating a central hub for Turkish producers to submit their wines.
Entrants will benefit from:
The IWSC Turkish Wine Producer Trophy is awarded to one outstanding producers in the region who showcases consistency and craftsmanship across their entire portfolio of Turkish wines entered into the judging. In 2025, the trophy was awarded to Akberg Şrince Şarapçilik, who demonstrated exceptional quality and strong medal performance across their entries.
All producers entering the IWSC and judged during the Turkish session are automatically considered for this prestigious award. Following the judging, the highest-performing producers are shortlisted based on their results. The shortlist is then reviewed by members of the IWSC Judging Committee, who select the overall winner.
