IWSC 2025 Wine Trophies: Top bottles revealed

Following the IWSC 2025 Wine Judging earlier this year, we are delighted to reveal the IWSC Wine Trophy winners for 2025. Read on to discover which bottles were awarded the competition’s highest accolades.

Highlights
  • A total of 40 Wine Trophies were awarded this year, recognising excellence across still, sparkling, and fortified categories.

  • Cabernet Sauvignon shone in the red wine trophies, with top awards for producers in Western Australia

  • Sparkling wine trophies highlighted both Champagne and Prosecco styles, underlining global quality.

  • Fortified wines once again delivered standout performances, from Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherries to aged Madeira and muscat.

Still Wines Take Centre Stage

Cabernet Sauvignon once again proved its class on the world stage. Peccavi Estate's 'The Estate' Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 from Margaret River was named one of the this year's outstanding reds, joined by fellow Western Australian producer Xanadu Wines with its Cabernet Sauvignon 2023. Snake and Herring alos impressed with its Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, further cementing the region's reputation for producing world-class expressions of the variety. Even more proof of Margaret Rivers enduring appealing can be found in Happs Three Hills Chardonnay 2023 which was also awarded a trophy.

Elsewhere, Awatere River's Sauvignon Blanc 2024 secured a trophy, showing the enduring appeal of Marlbouroguh's signature grape. In Georgia, Wine Art took home a trophy for its Ethno Mtsvane 2022, while Austria's Weingut Haimerl earned a trophy for its Grüner Veltliner Ried Redling Reserve 2023. Cebderbeg's Five Generations Chenin Blanc 2024 also demonstrated the continuing strength of South Africa Chenin, while Château d’Esclans’ celebrated Garrus 2023 rose to the top in the Rosé category.

The diversity of styles was equally striking. Winged Lion's Amber by Moossah 2002 was recognised with a trophy in the Amber/Orange Wine category, the first Armenian wine to receive an IWSC trophy, while Domaines Paul Mas's Cote Mas L'Esprit du Midi 2023 highlighted the versatility of Grenache. Turkey aslo took the spotlight, with Akberg Prince Şarapçilik’s Büyükba? Öküzgözü 2024 taking home a trophy.

Sparkling Success Stories

Champagne shone once again, with Rare’s Brut 2013 taking a Trophy and Piper-Heidsieck’s Essentiel Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV winning a Trophy in the Blanc de Blancs category. Italy’s flair for sparkling wine was also celebrated, as Guia’s Incipit Sui Lieviti Brut Nature 2022 claimed a Trophy. The Co-op also took home a wine trophy for their Les Pionniers Vintage Brut 2013.

English sparkling shone throughout the initial judging, so it is no surprise that both Weyborne's Oriana Brut 2019 and Bride Valley Reserve Brut 2018 were awarded trophies

Fortified Wines Demonstrate Timeless Appeal

The fortified wine categories saw exceptional results, with Spain and Portugal leading the way. Bodegas Tradición’s 20 YO Cream NV was awarded a trophy, while Valdespino's Don Gonzalo 20 YO Oloroso NV impressed the judges. Bodegas Fundador also triumphed with Harveys 30 YO Pedro Ximénez NV.

From Portugal, Menin’s 20 YO NV earned recognition for its white fortified style, while D’Oliveiras’ Boal 1986 underscored Madeira’s ageing potential. Australia’s Morris Wines meanwhile took a Trophy for its Cellar Reserve Grand Muscat NV, confirming its reputation as a global leader in fortified winemaking.
