After much deliberation, Freccianera, Fratelli Berlucchi has been awarded the Franciacorta Wine Producer Trophy, recognition of outstanding performance at the IWSC’s first-ever Global Judging event in Franciacorta earlier this year.

The Trophy is given to the producer with the strongest overall showing, and Freccianera excelled. All seven wines they submitted earned medals, including a gold for their Casa delle Colonne Riserva Brut 2015. Of the remaining entries, three received silver and three bronze. Their wines showcased the breadth of Franciacorta, with styles ranging from Satèn and Blanc de Blancs to Rosa.

Christelle Guibert, the IWSC's CEO commented:
“Franciacorta is Italy’s premium sparkling wine, and very few examples are found outside the region. The tasting was a fantastic opportunity to introduce these exceptional wines to a wider audience and truly showcase the producers of this remarkable region.”

Freccianera is the label of Azienda Agricola Fratelli Berlucchi, a winery with roots dating back to 1927 and one of the founding members of the Franciacorta Consortium.

Essi Avellan MW, member of the IWSC Wine Judging Committee and lead judge at the Franciacorta event, praised the results:
"It's thrilling to see one of the founding members of the Franciacorta consortium performing so strongly at the IWSC’s first in-situ judging event in Franciacorta. Every one of their wines impressed, which speaks to the Berlucchi family's expertise and highlights the region’s promising potential. Wines such as the gold medal-winning Freccianera Casa delle Colonne Brut Riserva 2015 showcase the incontestable quality of Franciacorta. It is the perfect time for Franciacorta to start bringing its wines more strongly to the attention of the international audience."

Judges described the gold medal winning Freccianera Casa delle Colonne Brut Riserva 2015 as: “An expressive bouquet of ripe apple, yellow plum, and a hint of toasted almond, underpinned by a lively lemon zest. The palate reveals a dry, balanced profile with refreshing acidity and a touch of salty minerality. A creamy mousse adds depth, leading to a complex finish of orange skin and subtle spice, leaving an impression of elegance and vibrancy.”

The IWSC Global Judging Producer Trophies were introduced in 2024 to recognise standout producers from each regional judging. From 2025, winners will be announced shortly after each event, with formal celebrations continuing at the IWSC’s annual Awards Ceremony in autumn. In 2025 Global judging has or will take place in all five continents.
