Following our Northern Hemisphere wine judging back in May, our expert judges came together again in October to judge our Southern Hemisphere wines. After the thousands of gold medals awarded (see Southern Hemisphere results here), it was down to our Wine Judging Committee - John Hoskins MW, Alistair Cooper MW, Freddy Bulmer, Dirceu Vianna Junior MW, Alex Hunt MW, David Kermode, Eric Zwiebel MS, Matteo Montone MS and Isa Bal MS – to decide which of the gold medal winners were worthy of our coveted trophy awards.

All gold medal winning wines were retasted blind to determine which would be crowned the best of the best. Trophies were awarded to wines from Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and USA; however, it was Italy that took home the most trophies this year with seven awarded to the country. The highest scoring trophy winner was Emilio Lustau’s Oloroso VORS NV which scored an impressive 98 points. Nyetimber stood out to our judges, with the producer receiving two trophies for its sparkling wines.
