We are pleased to reveal that Reece Sims is the 2025 winner of the IWSC Emerging Talent in Spirits Communications.
It was a category with many strong candidates and Reece was the clear winner. According to judge, Kristiane Sherry, Reece “was the most relevant communicator amongst the shortlist. The relevancy of how she’s communicating is really, really special.”
In a sector crowded with brand noise, Canadian spirits communicator Reece Sims is a fresh and vivid voice. Founder of SIP Spirits Consulting and Flavor Camp, Reece is crafting a new approach that weaves together data, inclusive storytelling and sensory-led education.
A Universal Language of Flavour
Reece stands out for her flavour-first philosophy. Rather than relying on jargon, she champions flavour as a universal language. Through articles, infographics, social media and hands-on events, she makes the world of spirits engaging and accessible for all.
Her work speaks to three audiences. For distilleries, she produces research-led articles. For bartenders, she fosters community through storytelling. And for consumers, Flavor Camp’s vibrant social media channels offer tasting guides, cocktail recipes and more.
Building Community Through Education
Education is at the heart of Reece’s work. She blends traditional media, digital content and live events. Whether contributing to magazines or hosting numerous tasting challenges each year, she brings spirits education to life across multiple platforms.
She is passionate about creating interactive, playful learning experiences. Through Flavor Camp, she is pioneering “edutainment” with blind tastings and user-led campaigns that make learning about spirits both accessible and fun.
A Vision for a More Inclusive Spirits World
Reece draws inspiration from disruptors like Becky Paskin and Chava Periban, who challenge norms and spotlight underrepresented voices. Her goal is to build a global platform for spirits education that celebrates food, culture and storytelling through the lens of flavour.
2024 marked a standout year. Reece announced Canadian Whisky Week, reached hundreds of thousands with her educational Instagram posts, and gained recognition as an international judge.
In her own words, Reece Sims is not just reporting on the spirits world, she is shaping its future. One flavourful story at a time.
