IWSC announces results of its 2022 Mixer Awards

Highlights:

  • Ukraine’s Dima’s Three Grain Vodka awarded Vodka & Tonic trophy
  • First time Low/No drinks included in the mixer awards and gold medals awarded to Bark & Bitter’s Novara Bitter Aperitivo, Vlčie’s Nochino Ruby Aperitif and Three Spirit Drink’s Livener

 

The IWSC has announced the results of its 2022 Mixer Awards, sponsored by Double Dutch Drinks.

Medals for these awards are based on how an entrant tastes when it is mixed with either Double Dutch Indian Tonic Water or Double Dutch Soda Water.

Searching for the perfect pairing, categories for these awards include Gin & Tonic and Vodka & Tonic. New for 2022 two new awards categories were added - Tequila & Tonic and Whisky Highball.

These awards are not limited to spirits, for the first time this year low and no alcohol entrants were also included in this year’s tasting.

 

Gin & Tonic Mixer Awards

The most popular category in the IWSC’s mixer awards, judges were on the search for the world’ s best gin & tonic paired with Double Dutch Indian tonic water. Six gold medals were awarded in this category:

  • As de Picos Classic Gin, Compañia Lebaniega de Vinos y Licores
  • Barossa Dry Gin, Seppeltsfield Road Distillers
  • London Dry Gin, Vánagandr Destilerías
  • Musician's Cut Gin, Seppeltsfield Road Distillers
  • Navy Strength Gin, Wolf Lane Distillery
  • Trading Tides Gin, Third Eye Distillery

The combination that was considered the ultimate pairing for 2022 and receiving this year’s Gin & Tonic Trophy was Vánagandr Destilerías’ London Dry Gin.

48 Gin & Tonic silver medals were awarded and 78 Gin & Tonic bronze medals.

 

Vodka & Tonic Mixer Awards

For the Vodka & Tonic awards, our judging panel were tasked with discovering the best combination of vodka and Double Dutch Indian tonic.

Twenty medals were awarded, six silvers and thirteen bronze medals.  And the IWSC was delighted to award the only gold medal in this category as well as this year’s Vodka & Tonic Trophy to Dima’s Three Grain Vodka. As with all entrants to the IWSC, the Ukrainian vodka was blind tasted and perceived to be the best accompaniment to Double Dutch’s Indian Tonic Water.

 

Whisky Highball Mixer Awards

One of our new categories and proving to be an incredibly popular addition to our awards, the Whisky Highball mixer awards awarded 46 medals in its first year.

19 silver medals were awarded and 21 bronze medals with the mixer awards biggest haul of gold medals in this year’s judging. Six entrants from Australia, Japan, Spain and the UK received a gold medal:

  • Japanese Smooth 8 YO Blended Scotch Whisky, Dewar's
  • Left-Field Single Malt Whisky, Starward
  • Mythical Beasts 15 YO Single Cask Sherry, Spiritfilled
  • Nomad Outland Whisky, González Byass
  • Okayama Triple Cask Single Malt Whisky, Miyashita Sake Brewery
  • Perfectly Balanced 12 YO Single Malt Scotch Whisky , Loch Lomond

The inaugural trophy for the whisky highball category was awarded to Starward’s Left-Field Single Malt Whisky           

 

Low & No Mixer Awards

For the first time this year low and no alcohol entrants were judged alongside tonic and soda water.

Eight medals were awarded in the low/no drinks with soda water category, including one gold medal for Bark & Bitter’s Novara Bitter Aperitivo

There were 18 medals awarded in the low/no drinks with tonic water category, including two gold medals. From Slovakia, Vlčie’s Nochino Ruby Aperitif was one gold medal winner, the other was Three Spirit Drink’s Livener.

 

Tequila & Tonic Mixer Awards

Another new category for 2022 awards, 4 silver medals were awarded and one bronze medal to entrants.
