Not only does Cederberg boast the Cape’s highest-altitude vineyards, it’s also said to be South Africa’s most uniquely situated wine farm. After all, how many estates can claim an entire floral kingdom on their doorstep?
Nestled in the pristine Cederberg Wilderness Area, the Cederberg winery lies in the Cape Floral Kingdom, which is one of only six recognised kingdoms in the world and home to some 9,000 plant species, 69% of which are endemic.
As a result of the winery’s remote location and rough terrain, at 1,036m above sea level, producing any wine, let alone some of the country’s most admired labels, is a stellar achievement and testament to the passion and commitment of owners, fourth- and fifth-generation Ernst and David Nieuwoudt, along with David’s daughter Emma representing the sixth generation.
