Caorunn Gin wins IWSC’s 2024 UK Gin Producer Trophy
We’re delighted to award Caorunn Gin (Balmenach Distillery) the IWSC 2024 UK Gin Producer Trophy.
Caorunn Gin, a proud product of International Beverage, stands at the forefront of Scotland’s gin renaissance. Established in 2009, it was the first small-batch premium Scottish gin crafted within a working Scotch whisky distillery, Balmenach, which has a storied history dating back to 1824. With its name deriving from the Gaelic word for ‘Rowan Berry’, Caorunn embodies the spirit of Scottish heritage, harnessing the local environment by foraging five unique Celtic botanicals within a ten-minute walk from the distillery. This commitment to local sourcing is matched by their innovative production method: Caorunn is the only gin worldwide distilled using a Copper Berry Chamber, maximising the flavour extraction from its carefully selected botanicals.
Sustainability is a core tenet of Caorunn’s mission, exemplified by the distillery’s recent £4 million upgrade that has made it one of Scotland’s greenest distilleries. The installation of an Anaerobic Digestion plant allows for efficient conversion of whisky co-products into clean bio-methane gas, significantly reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency. With a focus on responsible practices, Caorunn not only prioritises environmental stewardship but also invests in its people, fostering a culture that values community and craftsmanship. As a result, Caorunn has become synonymous with quality, innovation, and responsibility, making its mark in the gin industry.
Our panel of judges noted: "Caorunn drew our attention through their work with sustainability and consumer engagement, raising the bar for UK gin as a whole." This accolade speaks volumes about Caorunn’s sustained excellence and its ability to engage with consumers in a meaningful way.
Caorunn’s achievements in 2024 further underscore its innovative spirit. The brand has expanded its availability in major retailers, including a significant increase in Tesco stores and new listings across Waitrose. Its dynamic approach to marketing, including influential collaborations and engaging PR campaigns, has solidified its position as the Number 1 Premium London Dry Gin in the Scottish Off Trade. Moreover, the introduction of new expressions, like the limited-edition Caorunn Cask Aged, highlights Caorunn's commitment to meeting evolving consumer tastes.
