We’re delighted to award Familia Torres the IWSC 2023 Low & No Wine Producer Trophy, sponsored byBevZero.
Familia Torres founded its winery in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870, more than 150 years ago. Every generation has passed on its passion for wine culture from parents to children, a passion built on a deep respect for the land and tradition, as well as a belief in innovation. This belief in innovation was never more evident than in 2008 when the company launched its Natureo range, the first Spanish dealcoholised wine. The project was spearheaded by Mireia Torres, fifth generation of the Torres family. Three years of extensive research ensured the quality of the range met the family’s high standards.
Our judges were impressed by Familia Torres’ commitment to the wine industry, pioneering low/no wines, and in turn, paving the way for other wineries and setting an important benchmark. Their commitment to quality was unmistakable from the many medals they received in the IWSC 2023 Awards. Their Sangre De Toro Rosé 2022 received a high silver medal, with judges praising “A bright inviting nose of greengages, vanilla and soft nutmeg spice. The mid-palate follows with caramel, tartness and coconut. Finishes with sour strawberry laces and vanilla sorbet.”
Not only do Familia Torres remain dedicated to the quality of their low/no wines, but they are also forward looking with their commitment to their sustainability efforts. The company live by their motto “the more we care for the earth, the better our wines”. The winery strengthened its environmental commitment by creating the 'Torres & Earth' programme to adapt to climate change and mitigate the effects of global warming through the reduction of its carbon footprint. Its goal is to reduce the CO2 emissions (from the vineyard to the end consumer) by 60% in 2030 and become a net zero winery by 2040. The company’s self-evaluation was commended by our judges.
Congratulations to Familia Torres.
