Levan Mekhuzla, a prominent figure in the Georgian wine industry, has established himself as a key player in the field of viticulture and winemaking regulation. Currently holding the prestigious position of Chairman at the National Wine Agency within the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, his career is characterized by a deep commitment to the growth and excellence of the Georgian wine sector.
Levan's journey in this industry began with his role as Deputy Chairman at the National Wine Agency, where he demonstrated his expertise and passion for the field. In a relatively short span, he ascended to the role of Chairman, becoming a pivotal figure in shaping the policies and direction of the wine industry in Georgia.
His contributions to the National Wine Agency go beyond his chairmanship. Prior to his leadership role, he held the position of Head of the Viticulture and Winemaking Regulatory Department, demonstrating a profound understanding of the regulatory aspects that underpin the industry. This role spanned from March 2015 to April 2018. Subsequently, he served as the Head of the Strategic Development and Analysis Department, where he played a significant part in charting the industry's strategic growth from April 2013 to March 2015.
Levan's involvement in the industry's development extends beyond government roles. He has actively participated in the evaluation of wines as the Deputy Chairman of the state tasting commission. Furthermore, he contributed his expertise to the World Bank project for Georgian Agriculture Development as the Head of the Economics & Marketing commission within the O.I.V. Congress organization committee from December 2009 to June 2010.
Before his tenure at the National Wine Agency, Levan accrued substantial experience in the private sector. Notably, he worked at JSC "Bagrationi - 1882," a renowned Georgian wine company. Beginning as a Logistics Manager and then advancing to the role of Chief Production Manager, his experience provided invaluable insights into the intricacies of wine production and management.
Prior to this, Levan's career commenced at "Georgian Wines and Spirits" Ltd, which is part of the Pernod Ricard Group. His roles included Quality Control Manager and Laboratory Manager. His expertise in quality control and laboratory management has contributed significantly to the industry's standards.
In addition to his professional roles, Levan has dedicated himself to furthering his knowledge and expertise. He completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program with a marketing focus at Free University, European School of Management (ESM), Tbilisi, Georgia, between 2008 and 2010. He also holds a Business Administration Base Certificate Program (pre-MBA) certificate from ESM, achieved between 2007 and 2008. His educational journey commenced with a Bachelor's degree in Winemaker-Technologist from the Georgian National Agrarian University, demonstrating his deep-rooted connection to the world of winemaking.
Levan has also undertaken specialized training programs and courses to enhance his skills, including the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (W.S.E.T.) and quality auditing courses.
