Ian Burrell named IWSC’s 2024 Spirits Communicator

We’re delighted to announce that Ian Burrell is the winner of the IWSC’s 2024 Spirits Communicator Trophy, sponsored by Chivas Brothers.

Recognised as the Rum Ambassador, Ian’s breadth of work across the rum industry greatly impressed our judges. They praised Ian’s broad knowledge, but also his unique ability to transcend trade and consumers. He brings rum to not just the afficionados, but more importantly to the unknowing consumer. Over decades, Ian’s enthusiasm and passion for what he does has never wilted. His authentic approach is ever engaging, and our judges believe he truly brings spirits to life along with the joy of drinking. He has the difficult task of bringing the spark to someone’s spirits journey, and he appears to do it effortlessly.

Ian’s mentorship is a passion project, he works to inspire others within the industry from marginalised backgrounds, a quality that really stood out to our judges. Also commended was Ian’s charity work, most recently travelling to Antarctica, as part of a 7-continent tour, to create awareness for the rum category and raise money for charity.

Ian is a worthy winner of this award; he continues to inspire new people to work within the industry and always goes beyond sharing his expert knowledge of rum but builds communities. His genuine enthusiasm for what he does is evident to all.
