Foursquare Rum Distillery takes home IWSC’s 2024 Rum Producer Trophy
We’re delighted to award Foursquare Rum Distillery the IWSC 2024 Rum Producer Trophy.
Foursquare, established in 1996 by R L Seale & Co. Ltd., has become a beacon of quality and innovation in the rum industry. This Barbados distillery was founded on the site of a 17th-century sugar factory, marrying history with modern production techniques. Foursquare is now the island’s largest privately-owned rum exporter, boasting an impressive reserve of over 45,000 casks. The distillery is renowned not only for its exquisite rum but also for its commitment to sustainability. With one of the largest private solar installations in Barbados, Foursquare sources approximately 40% of its energy from renewable sources, reflecting its dedication to ethical and responsible practices. This combination of heritage, innovation, and sustainability has earned Foursquare the Rum Producer Trophy at the IWSC 2024.
The IWSC judges noted that “Foursquare is just such a clever brand with the perfect combination of scale and quality; they’re the best of the best.” This accolade is supported by the distillery’s remarkable performance at the IWSC, securing four out of seven gold outstanding medals awarded, with one rum reaching an astonishing score of 99 points—an achievement shared with only six other entries in the competition. Additionally, Foursquare has garnered six Gold medals, outstripping all other producers in this prestigious arena.
Foursquare's commitment to innovation is evident in its production methods. By combining traditional techniques with modern advancements, such as vacuum distillation and materials science, the distillery has enhanced the quality of its rums without compromising their authenticity. This innovative spirit is further reflected in their recent collaboration with Neisson Distillery from Martinique and Hampden Distillery from Jamaica, culminating in a unique box set that celebrates the distinct terroir of each island. Such initiatives underscore Foursquare's ethos of cooperation and mutual respect within the rum community.
