FAMILY-OWNED distiller William Grant & Sons, producers of Glenfiddich, Grant’s and Balvenie, was announced ‘Distiller of the Year’ at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) awards banquet.

The independent distiller scooped 54 medals and four trophies in the Oscars of the spirits’ world, seeing off competition from around the world to be awarded the sought-after title.

As well as winning the Distiller of the Year trophy, sponsored by Suntory, the Speyside-based company also received the title ‘International Spirits Producer’. The distiller’s Balvenie Thirty, 30 YO single malt Scotch whisky, which retails at £355, scooped a trophy along with other product trophies for its Leyenda del Milagro Reposado tequila and Reyka vodka.

IWSC’s marketing manager, David Kelly, said: “The family owned William Grant & Sons distillers was founded in 1839, still a family concern today, they now have a wholly owned global network. Winners at the IWSC over many years their quality and range makes them a strong contender, regularly beating stiff opposition.”

“The Distiller of the Year is highly prized award and hotly contested but it is no mean feat with contenders having to go through several rounds to reach the shortlist.”

The shortlist for the title also included Suntory International, Whyte & Mackay and Burn Stewart Distillers.
