IWSC’s First 2024 Global Judging to take place in Georgia

We are delighted to kick start our 2024 Wine Awards at the “cradle of winemaking”. This autumn, our international experts will be heading to Georgia to judge wines from the world’s most ancient viticultural region.

As part of our commitment to supporting wine regions across the world, in 2024 the IWSC will continue to hold global judging events offering producers a unique opportunity to showcase their wines in front of our judges, all internationally renowned industry experts. We are pleased to announce that our 2024 series of global awards will symbolically start “where it all began” – in a region known as the birthplace of wine.  

Following last year’s success of the IWSC’s wine judging in Georgia, with 500 entries and over 280 medals awarded, we look forward to returning to this stunning country known for its hospitality and unique wine traditions.

Furthermore, in partnership with The Gurjaani Wine Festival and National Wine Agency of Georgia this year, our judging will evolve into a significant regional event. Therefore, in addition to Georgia itself, we will also be welcoming entries from Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Georgia and the Caucasus region are famous for their indigenous grapes and ancient wine traditions. Nowadays, a true wine renaissance is happening in this part of the world with many independent producers making high-quality wines with a clear regional identity. Bringing the IWSC Awards to Georgia and welcoming Georgian, Armenian and Azerbaijani entries will allow local producers an opportunity to receive global recognition,” said Christelle Guibert, CEO of IWSC.

Our team of experts traveling to Georgia will be overseen by our Judging Committee Member, Master Of Wine Alistair Cooper. Alistair will be joined by international and local judges, including buyers, sommeliers and wine communicators.
