New for 2022 the IWSC has announced it will be judging sparkling wine and champagne as a separate category. We are delighted that Essi Avellan MW will be heading our sparkling wine and Champagne judging panel.
Last year, the IWSC received over 900 sparkling wines entries for its 2021 awards. Of these wines, 34 received gold medals and 7 wines were awarded a trophy.
Two trophy winners were from England's Nyetimber Vineyard, one was a Franciacorta from Italy, and the other four wines were Champagne, including one from our 2021 Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year, Champagne Rare.
Following the recent opening of our 2022 awards, the IWSC has already received almost 400 sparkling wine entries, including wines from Switzerland, Moldova, Canada, Brazil and Japan, plus the more usual suspects from France, Italy, Spain, Germany, South Africa and the UK.
Entry for the 2022 wine awards closes on 25 March. We will be announcing the medal winners from 23 May. Find out more about how to enter here.
