Rewarding considerate winemaking & viticulture

The IWSC’s Green Wine Initiative Trophy was created to recognise the myriad of considerate viticulture and wine making practices underway across the world.

Highlighting the impressive work being carried out by producers already on the journey toward improving their environmental credentials. Small or large, part of a cooperative or a one-man vintner, we want to hear from businesses of all shapes and sizes about the good work being carried out to improve your wine-making production processes, and how you are championing change. Open to all entrants to the IWSC's 2024 Wine Awards.

Entry criteria

Applicants will be able to provide quantitative evidence on the nature of the improvements made and can demonstrate a causal relationship between activities undertaken and improvements achieved. Visible progress to becoming a more sustainable organisation must be demonstrated. Initiatives must already be underway; it is not enough to simply demonstrate intention.

The award is open to all entrants to the IWSC's 2024 Wine Awards.

If you wish to be considered for this award, you must have entered the IWSC's 2024 Wine Awards.

The deadline for the 2024 applications is Friday 20 September 2024.

How do we submit an entry?

  • Complete and submit the entry form.

What are you looking for in a submission?

  • We will be looking for a project that, in the judges’ view, has the greatest significance in terms of its positive impact on sustainability and demonstrates creativity and innovation.

How will the award be judged?

  • A selection of industry experts will vote independently on the submissions. There are two rounds of voting. The first round will determine the shortlist, the second round will determine the overall winner.

Is there a cost associated with entering this award

  • No. There is no cost – participation is free of charge.

When will the winner be announced?

  • The winner will be announced at the IWSC's 2024 Awards Celebration on 12 November 2024. The shortlisted entrants will be announced w/c 30 September 2024.

Can a business submit multiple entries?

  • We recognise many businesses are proudly pioneering several initiatives and so we encourage multiple entries though limit it to up to 5 entries.
