We are pleased to reveal that Kopke (Sogevinus Fine Wines) is the winner of our 2024 Fortified/Sweet Wine Producer Trophy.Founded in 1638, Kopke is recognised as the oldest Port House in the world and was established many years before the Douro Demarcated Wine Region. Its library of very old wines, including a plethora of tawny Ports and very rare white Port wines, has sealed Kopke's long-established reputation for producing the finest ports.
Kopke's mission is clear: to honour the traditions of winemaking while embracing innovation, ensuring that the ancient art of Port wine production flourishes for generations to come. As a proud winner of the Sweet and Fortified Wine Producer Trophy at the IWSC 2024, Kopke has been recognised for its exceptional medal performance, achieving an impressive tally of three golds and five silvers at this year’s awards.
What sets Kopke apart is not just its deep-rooted tradition but also its unwavering commitment to sustainability. The company actively works to preserve the unique terroir of the Douro Valley, renowned worldwide as the birthplace of Port wine. Sogevinus group employs innovative practices to minimise the effects of climate change and preserve soil health, such as promoting natural vegetation cover and reducing the use of inorganic fungicides. Additionally, with a remarkable collection of wines that span centuries, they continues to release treasured gems that surprise and delight wine enthusiasts globally.
This year, Kopke has launched the Library Collection, a unique and exclusive Library of some of the rarest wines in the world. Comprising a trio of bottlings carefully selected to celebrate the legacy of the renowned port house, these wines have been aged side by side in 400 litre barriques in Kopke's Vila Nova de Gaia cellars since the beginning of the 20
th century. A limited-edition release of just 385 units, the Library Collection is a historical archive of three original wines reflecting Kopke's four centuries of expertise.
