English Wines Awarded Record Number of Medals at IWSC

• English sparkling wine award winners jump +15.8% year on year

• Number of top English wine medal winners (Gold or Gold Outstanding) up +28.5%

• English red wine winners up by 66%

• Total of English wine winners has more than doubled (+120%) over the past five years of the IWSC

• Sparkling wines from Jenkyn Place, Nyetimber and Henners scoop coveted Gold Outstanding medals at the 2017 competition

• Elsewhere, the first award-winning wines from Azerbaijan and Egypt are recognised by the IWSC and big increase in medal winners from Russia (+150%) and Japan (+55%)

We've unveiled the medal winners from our annual Northern Hemisphere Wine tasting – and the results reinforce the rise of England as a quality wine-producing region on the global stage. Announced at this years prestigious London Wine Fair, the results for the English wine category support growing wine industry and consumer appreciation of the quality, provenance and craftsmanship of the sector both in the UK and abroad. 

Overall, English wines scooped 7.5% more Gold, Silver and Bronze awards than in 2016’s competition, while wines recognised in the sparkling category, led by stalwarts Nyetimber, Jenkyn Place and Henners, leapt by almost 30%. English red and rosé wine winners also grew by +66% and +13%, with wines including Gusbourne Pinot Noir 2014 and Lyme Bay Pinot Noir Rose 2014 recognised respectively.
