Highlighting the consistent quality of supermarket wines, this year 80% of the wines selected for entry into the IWSC received a medal. While only five gold medals were awarded to supermarket wines, the multiple retailers received an impressive number of silver and bronze accolades.
Entries for the worlds most established drinks awards were received from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose, M&S, Lidl and Aldi.
Tesco received the greatest number of awards this year, taking home more silver and bronze medals than their competitors and receiving a gold medal for its 2018 Finest Amarone.
Asda received the second highest number of medals with notable silver medals awarded to the 2021 Extra Special Sancerre and 2021 Extra Special Vouvray.

Medal winners’ worth highlighting from Lidl which received a total of 10 IWSC medals this year, include silver medal winning 2017 Spanish Cepa Lebrel Reserva and Lidl’s own-label 2020 Gavi.
From M&S, its wines received 12 silver medals including medals for its 2020 Classics Riesling and one for Sherry lovers, the M&S Pale Dry Fino Sherry.
