Judging 'in situ'

Judging 'in situ'

Each year, the IWSC takes its experts to wine regions around the world, collaborating with local experts to judge wines 'in situ'.

By creating this opportunity, producers from selected regions are able to benefit from the expertise and influence of the IWSC, without having to transport wines to the UK.

Each year, new locations will be selected and these regions will vary from year to year. Please review this page before entering your wines into our awards, as new regions may be announced at short notice.

Following last year’s first endeavour into ‘in situ’ tasting in South Africa, for 2023, the IWSC will be broadening it’s localised judging. We will be bringing our awards once again to South Africa in August 2023. We've already visited Georgia and we look forward to heading out to Austria in May and Argentina in the summer too. We will be sharing further information on where to send your wines and judging dates in the coming months, but if you enter your wines, please don’t send samples yet. We will let you know where to arrange more convenient local delivery soon.

"This trip has increased my understanding and knowledge of South African wine. This immersion in the wines of the country, through producer and vineyard visits, deepens all of our understanding in a way that tasting and judging blind in a room in London can never achieve. I think it encourages us to judge each wine as an individual and think about it in its context."
